Hello There!
LITH music is kicking off to a noteworthy year. Kindergarten and First grade were
assessed this week on steady beat to align with district 300 music standards
MU-K-B and MU-1-B. Kindergarten is exploring high and low sounds. First grade is
also learning ‘so mi’ songs to build students’ inner ears as well as develop
their singing voice.
In second grade we’re working on a Spanish song called ‘El Juego Chirimbolo’. It’s a
fun dance song that reinforces so, mi, and la pitches. I have the students use
solfege hand signs as they listen to the song, then sing the song. After this I teach
them the moves!
Third grade musical rehearsal has begun! Our patriotic show debuts November
21st. I am trying a new choral warm up that sounds like this:
”If you want to sing you must prepare the air, support the sound, let the vowels be
round, keep the consonants clean, let our emotions be seen – so we can sing our
song all day long!” It’s infectious and catchy, so stop by and sing with us some
time!
4th grade took a test on counting rhythms, note values, and notation to prepare them
for recorders which starts next week. (We also did a little limboing at the
beginning of the year) All fourth grade students will bring a binder to school
which we will use to build a recorder book throughout the year.
5th grade was recently assessed on syncopation, the complicated rhythms where
important sounds begin on weak beats or weak parts of the beats. We also have
explored the human vocal chords and diaphragm, as well as their function in
speech.
Stay tuned for more music notes!
